Facing backlash and hate from the liberal media, the Governor of Florida dropped all COVID restrictions in the Fall of last year. And, what do you know? The state is doing fine. In fact, they appear to be doing better than most.
Although cases are dropping nationwide, as well as all other COVID stats, and the vaccine continues to reach those in need, states that set strict rules refuse to budge. Some were gradually rolling out reopening plans, but those seemed to come to a halt last summer—with little movement since.
Well, two conservative states said “Enough is enough” and announced this week they are dropping all restrictions. Both Texas and Mississippi revealed that mask mandates and other limitations will no longer be enforced—allowing all businesses to open at 100%.
The left rioted. Apparently, they didn’t know that most Texans aren’t hiding in their homes, “socially distancing.” Joe Biden personally bashed these two states calling their decisions “Neanderthal thinking.” It seems he didn’t like these states thinking independently, rejecting the left’s narrative that COVID must be paraded around as a chip to control the nation.
So, these governors fired back.
“Mississippians don’t need handlers,” [Mississippi Governor Tate] Reeves said. “As numbers drop, they can assess their choices and listen to experts. I guess I just think we should trust Americans, not insult them.”…
Renae Eze, press secretary for Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R), responded to Biden’s remarks…
“The fact is, Texas now has the tools and knowledge to combat COVID while also allowing Texans and small businesses to make their own decisions… We must now do more to restore livelihoods and normalcy for Texans. The Governor’s focus has been, and always will be, protecting the lives and livelihoods of Texans.” [Source: Daily Wire]
Both governors asserted their residents’ personal responsibilities (and rights) in keeping safe from this virus. They made it clear that citizens don’t need the government breathing down their necks.
From the very start of the COVID panic, the government (both federal and state) decided they needed to make decisions for free Americans. Instead of relying on citizens to do what was best for themselves and their families, the government took over, shutting down our society in the interest of “safety.”
The results, as we’ve all seen, were devastating. Far more damage was done to our schools, communities, economy, and families than the virus ever could. Yet despite all that, most leaders continue to pretend that the sky is falling.
I have news for them: Americans are done pretending to be scared of COVID. Life must go on. Lockdowns don’t work. Vaccine or no vaccine, we have to live our lives.
Thankfully, these two governors understand that. Hopefully, the rest of them will see the light and get back to real life.
Otherwise… what are they even doing?
