California Governor Gavin Newsom should officially be getting nervous right about now. Because in a few months, he might be looking for a new job.
Not that long ago (and by that I mean last Fall), Newsom was one of the most popular governors in the country. He was enjoying an approval rating around 60%, pretty good for any leader. But in only a matter of months, the man’s star rapidly began to fall.
Pundits might disagree over why, but it seems pretty clear when you think about it. Just as other states were coming out of their pandemic lockdowns, Newsom and his Democratic majority pushed more lockdowns. He extended school closures into the new school year and all but outlawed major holidays.
To make matters worse, he was seen breaking his own rules not once, but twice.
Are we surprised that a recall effort that was flagging for months suddenly gained steam? At the start of this year, signatures were piling up to trigger a recall election. Some claimed they would not get enough to cross the finish line. But it looks like the official tally is in.
The effort to recall Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom reached the requisite number of signatures to land on the ballot later this year, according to a Monday announcement from the California secretary of state’s office.
California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber said that the threshold of verified signatures reported by counties — set at 1,495,709 — had been met. According to the latest update, 1,626,042 signatures have been submitted and verified, as Fox News reported…
Newsom’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has been met with intense backlash, especially after photos emerged last year showing him dining maskless indoors with friends at The French Laundry, an expensive Napa Valley restaurant that charges $1,200 per person for a one-of-a-kind multi-course dinner. Menus at The French Laundry change daily and often feature opulent ingredients like white truffle and caviar. [Source: Daily Wire]
There will be a thirty-day period where people can withdraw their signatures, a last-ditch effort by the state to prevent the recall. But there is little chance that enough people will suddenly decide to change their minds at the last second.
Candidates are already lining up to take on Newsom in a November recall election. Previous Republican candidates has discussed running, as well as transgender activist Caitlyn Jenner.
This is a startling turn of events in a deeply-blue state like California. For a long time, Democrats have enjoyed want has amounted to a super-majority. They controlled not only the governorship, but also most of the state legislature. There has not been enough of a Republican presence to prevent their radical agenda, transforming the once-prosperous Golden State into a leftist nightmare.
This recall might be the start of patriots taking back their state. We can’t predict the outcome of the recall effort, but the fact that it’s already come this far should have liberals shaking in their boots.
