Biden Launches All Out War Against GOP Governors

President Biden has addressed the nation about coronavirus on Wednesday, going further in his fight against specific GOP governors who have fought against mask mandates inside schools.

Biden said, “For those who are not eligible for the vaccines at this time — children under 12 — masks are the best protection for them and the adults around them. That’s why we need to make sure children are using masks while in school.”

“Unfortunately, as we have seen through this pandemic, some leaders are trying to fight public safety measures — that is, children using masks in school — and turn them into political arguments for their own political win. Some are even attempting to take power from local officials by banning masks inside school. They are setting a very dangerous tone,” Biden said.

He went on to state that, “Today, I am ordering the Secretary of Education — who is an educator himself — to take more steps to guard our kids. This includes using his legal actions and oversight authorities, if appropriate, against these governors who are blocking and intimidating local school officials.”

The Biden admin. has been searching for a way to get more involved in state politics, specifically targeting Texas and Florida where GOP Governors Greg Abbott and Ron DeSantis, have issued executive orders to ban mask mandates.

According to recent reports, “Fox News said that Biden’s Education Secretary Miguel Cardona sent a letter to DeSantis and Florida Education Comm. Richard Corcoran telling them that the federal government would give funds to school districts that defy the gov.’s order and risks losing state funds.”

“Florida’s recent steps to block schools from voluntarily using strategies for stopping the spread of COVID-19 that are aligned with CDC guidance puts students at risk,” Cardona said.

“We are eager to join with the Florida Dept. of Education about any efforts to further our common goals of protecting the health of students and teachers,” Cardona said. “If the department does not want to follow such an approach, we will continue to partner directly with the local districts that serve Florida’s students.”

Biden’s announcement comes as children go back to school during an ever-changing COVID-19 guidance and great debate about school board decisions concerning mask-wearing for children
