Leaked News of Breyer’s Retirement Being Called ‘Highly Suspicious’

The Internet was a firestorm yesterday after word came out that Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer was retiring after this term. Speculation began over whom Biden’s administration would pick as his replacement. Leftists were salivating over the opportunity, demanding they pick a woman of color and no doubt a radical activist.

But there’s only one problem. In all the flurry of talk, it escaped the media’s notice that the news had been leaked. As it turns out, Breyer has not officially announced his retirement yet. Reports are saying he is unhappy that his plans leaked out prematurely. And some are saying this is pretty “sus.”

Ron Bonjean, former top spokesman to the Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader, responded to the news by writing: “Potential retirement conversations between Justices and the WH happen at a very high level. For a news leak like this to happen is highly unusual.”

Other notable responses included:

Matt Gorman, Targeted Victory: “Stay on another term! That’ll show ’em.”

Tom Fitton, Judicial Watch: “No doubt leftists leaked Breyer retirement as part of their pressure campaign to force Breyer off the court. Big question is did the leak come from the Supreme Court itself?” [Source: Daily Wire]

It’s certainly troubling that important news like this was leaked. According to reports, the court was having close discussions with the White Hosue “at a very high level.” That means someone within the Biden administration could have leaked this news, to ensure Breyer didn’t change his mind.

Reports coming from Breyer’s camp directly claim it was a personal decision and he is set on it. Yet we all know that leftists have been gunning for him to retire ever since Ruth Bader Ginsberg died. They wanted Breyer to leave while Biden was in office, so the left could protect that “liberal” seat on the court.

Perhaps someone in the White House feared Breyer might decide to stay longer? Perhaps the talks weren’t as convincing as they’d hoped, and this leak would have forced his hand. Either way, it is outrageous that anyone involved would be so callous as to divulge this information prematurely. But it’s par for the course for the scum of the D.C. swamp.

Politicians and government employees have long enjoyed an incestuous relationship with the press in Washington. Underlings who essentially run the government have little incentive to protect the information that passes through their hands. It doesn’t take much for them to spill the beans on an important development after a reporter gets a few drinks in them. In some cases, they are literally in bed with the media.

That can’t of lack of integrity and virtue has turned the seat of our government into a joke. Even something like the end of a justice’s career is fodder for crooks who just want a scoop. His plans might have been derailed or even sabotaged because of this leak.

But as long as the left gets what it wants, who cares, right?
