Plenty of people are speculating on the 2024 Election. It’s still two years away, but millions are wondering who will be the GOP nominee. Of course, the good money’s on Donald Trump—who some believe is just days away from announcing a comeback campaign.
But in recent days, chatter has surrounded Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. The very popular and successful Republican governor is the closest figure in GOP 2024 straw polls. In a few outliers, he’s actually beaten Trump (though, he often is a distant second). Historical liberals, Joe Rogan and Elon Musk, championed the man for president.
That leaves the question, what is DeSantis actually planning? One of his allies let the cat out of the bag.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) told Breitbart News exclusively here at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit (SAS) that he does not believe Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would challenge former President Donald Trump in a 2024 GOP presidential primary should Trump decide to run.
“I think that’s highly unlikely,” Gaetz told Breitbart News…
“What I can tell you is these guys are on the same side,” Gaetz said. “We want to see a Republican Party that is a national party, a winning party, a fighting party. I think President Trump really views DeSantis’s success with great pride, that he took someone who was in Congress and that he saw great potential in and he nurtured that leadership that Ron DeSantis has now displayed to the world.” [Source: Breitbart]
Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz revealed that it’s “highly unlikely” that Ron DeSantis will run against Trump in the 2024 primaries. Neither man has announced a campaign, although it looks increasingly possible that Trump will reenter the fray.
Gaetz is removing all doubt that DeSantis will go up against his ally, Donald Trump, who helped him secure a big victory in the 2018 Florida governor’s race. DeSantis is currently running for re-election. And it doesn’t seem that he will challenge someone with whom he works closely.
The only reason people are talking about it, is because he has done surprisingly well in straw polls conducted over the last year. These polls listed dozens of GOP figures, none of whom are currently running for president.
It almost seems like a misdirection from the liberal media. Is it possible that they are hyping up DeSantis, hoping to take some of the wind out of Trump’s sails? We all know that the last thing Democrats want is for Trump to return to office.
Anyone but him, right libs? All this talk of DeSantis could have been a pathetic attempt by the left to derail Trump and the GOP’s plans.
But, as usual, it’s all smoke no fire.
