‘Squad’ Member Pushed for Rent Cancellation Made $100,000 From Rental Income

It never fails. Democrats push for policies they never follow themselves. They pass massive tax bills but ensure they can use the loopholes. They defund police while enjoying paid security. And they pushed policies that would have doomed homeowners and landlords while banking off others’ misery.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib is one of the self-proclaimed socialist “squad” members in the House. But, like AOC other supposed socialists, she has gotten rich thanks to her position in American government. During the COVID panic, she demanded landlords cancel rent, a move that would have left many property owners destitute.

But all the while, Tlaib was raking in the cash… from renters.

Squad member Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) made up to $100,000 in rental income during the pandemic while simultaneously co-sponsoring a bill to implement a nationwide cancellation of rents and home mortgage payments.

Fox New Digital reported that Tlaib’s 2021 annual financial disclosures revealed a property in Detroit accumulated between $15,001 and $50,000 in rental income — the same amount from the same property in 2020…

Michigan Rising Action argued last year that Tlaib’s receipt of rental income is an “insult to every landlord who is unable to collect rent from tenants to make ends meet,” Eric Ventimiglia said, according to The Detroit News. [Source: Daily Wire]

How typical. Tlaib was pushing to force landlords to “cancel” rent during the pandemic. Yet despite this, she collected hundreds of thousands of dollars over the last two years from rental properties.

One group said it was an “insult” to landlords who—in many states—were denied the chance to collect rent from tenants. In fact, in some states like CA, many landlords still can’t collect rent, three years out.

Tlaib’s pathetic response? Her spokeswoman (not herself) claimed there was “no contradiction” in preventing others from collecting rent while receiving rent yourself.

M-hm. Now tell us the sky is green.

This “socialist” has the gall to stop others from making an income while collecting big bucks from others. That’s pretty typical for the progressive left. They prance around, calling homeowners and landlords “scum” for demanding rent from tenants. As if these landlords are so rich, they don’t even need the money.

The reality? Many landlords need that rent, just to pay the mortgages on their homes. They are not the super elite who own homes for no reason. They are often regular folks who need to collect rent just to get by. In some cases, these are real estate companies that use that income to pay their employees.

But never let the facts get in the way of a progressive’s hypocrisy. The only question is, how long before Michigan voters wake up and fire this con artist?
