There could even be a benefit to the raid on Mar-A-Lago, which is turning into a greater and bigger PR issue for the DOJ and the FBI. It could work as a diversion from yet another disaster they have made. I recently served as a guest presenter for the Pete Kaliner program, and during one of my segments, I spoke about the Senate hearing that FBI director Christopher Wray was participating in. The leader of the Detroit field office who was engaged in the Whitmer probe was elevated to the D.C. branch and is now in charge of the January 6 investigation, which was one of the things I brought up that day.
I went down the rabbit hole to find out what happened to the Whitmer abduction case since Ted Cruz’s questions to Wray on this subject were sharp.
Well, the problem has just gotten worse.
For a short recap, the FBI allegedly thwarted a conspiracy by 12 people to abduct Governor Whitmer in protest of her handling of the COVID outbreak. Four of the twelve clan participants have faced justice. The Bureau’s issues start as a result.
Things essentially blew up in The Bureau’s face after so much build-up from the DOJ and gasoline from widespread media attention. When it was discovered that two of those members had been set up, they were exonerated, and the other two—including the suspected mastermind Adam Fox—led to a hung jury. On August 9, the federal prosecutors began a new trial for Fox and accomplice Barry Croft. The issues still exist for the government, and what was once a widely publicized case that seemed to be a foregone conclusion has turned into a stain on the DOJ and the FBI.
The idea that there could be a connection between the Bureau and the Whitmer camp is more than just conjecture. The local FBI office has a new US Attorney, Mark Totten, but this has complicated matters. He was appointed by Biden soon after the Fox decision, and because the government has started this new retrial, Totten must step aside from the proceedings. He served as Gretchen Whitmer’s first legal counsel when she assumed office, which explains why.
According to the FBI, the situation is a total disaster. Due to their conduct, a large number of the key actors for the Feds in this case have been driven away. Stephen Robeson, one of the key witnesses who was allegedly the driving force behind the scheme, served as the FBI’s top informant, but they seem to have burnt him. Robeson was brought up on firearms charges but was never subsequently summoned as a witness.
