For a time, it looked like Democrats were going to defy the odds (and common sense) and dominate the 2022 midterms.
Yes, that sounds impossible. Biden has been such a bad “president” that voters are ready to wreck vengeance. But polls from last summer suggested voters took a mental leave of absence, as it looked like Democrats have an advantage going into November.
But that little glimmer of hope didn’t last long. Democrats continue their streak of failure and ignoring Americans. And the latest midterm poll shows big trouble for the left.
Republicans have soared into the lead on the generic congressional ballot ahead of the midterms, according to a recent survey.
As of the end of September, the GOP led the Democrats by a 47%-44% margin, per a Monmouth University poll, released Monday. That figure represents a ten-point swing in favor of the Republicans compared with the same survey’s August results, which gave the Democrats a 50%-43% lead in the metric.
The generic congressional ballot is not a precise indicator of party performance, given that control of the House depends on 435 separate races. It does, however, provide some insight into the national mood ahead of the electoral contest, and significant shifts, such as last month’s 10-point swing toward the Republicans, provide meaningful indicators. Democrats tend to win in generic ballot polls, even in years Republicans gain the majority. But this massive swing is very bad news for Democrats.
In just one month, sentiment among voters shifted by ten points–according to this one poll. Whatever advantage Democrats gained by the end of the summer evaporated. Voters are still upset with Biden and his party. And the left continues to push a radical agenda that will raise taxes, increase inflation, leave the border open, and destroy the economy.
Democrats might have gotten a small bump by the end of the summer because gas prices started to go down. But economic norms were reversed when, at the start of the fall, gas resumed going up. Add to that Joe Manchin’s betrayal of Americans when he helped pass Biden’s toxic tax-and-spend bill, which will result in increased taxes in the coming year.
Despite all the soft coverage from the liberal media, Democrats continue to hurt Americans. Inflation is still at a 40-year-high, even as Biden denies we are in a recession. The housing market is tanking as interest rates soar. Consumer prices keep going up as many Americans struggle to put food on the table.
Why should Democrats think they were safe? They have the majority and will be held responsible for these problems. For years, the left ignored issues that Americans care about the most. It should be no surprise that voters will wreck them come November.
If this polling trend continues, Democrats could be in very big trouble.
