To some in America, Obama is still their “golden god.” The man who almost single-handedly destroyed the United States continues to be a vocal figure within the Democratic Party. The left still fawns over this man, despite the fact his presidency was mostly a failure.
But plenty of liberals won’t like what Obama had to say in a recent interview. The former president is sitting on the sidelines as Democrats crumble just before the midterms. Their policies are essentially coming from him, but he still is slamming them over this one major issue.
Obama is calling out his own party over their obsession with cancel culture.
Former President Barack Obama offered some advice to his party heading into the fast-approaching November midterms, warning Democrats not to be “buzzkills” and calling for a move away from cancel culture…
“My family, my kids, work that gives me satisfaction, having fun. Hell, not being a buzzkill. And sometimes Democrats are,” Obama continued. “Sometimes people just want to not feel as if they are walking on eggshells, and they want some acknowledgment that life is messy and that all of us, at any given moment, can say things the wrong way, make mistakes.” […]
“I think where we get into trouble sometimes is where we try to suggest that some groups are more – because they historically have been victimized more – that somehow they have a status that’s different than other people and we’re going around scolding folks if they don’t use exactly the right phrase,” he explained. “Or that identity politics becomes the principle lens through which we view our various political challenges.” [Source: Daily Wire]
Wow. This is pretty rich, coming from him. Obama slammed Democrats for pushing cancel culture and being “buzzkills” in our society.
It’s true. Democrats’ obsession with politics has tainted everything, even parts of our society that should be separate from politics. It is the Democrats’ fault that popular actors, athletes, and comedians have been “canceled” in recent years, unable to find work because they dared defy the woke mob.
But Obama is hardly one to talk when he complained later about Democrats’ protection of “some groups.” Identity politics and the representation of specific groups have been a hallmark of Democrats for decades. In fact, Obama got to where he was because he exploited the left’s love of propping up minorities and other groups (Muslims, homosexuals, transgenders, etc.)
Now, Obama is saying what Republicans and other Americans have been saying for years. The left’s tendency to prop up a group, just because they were victimized in the past, is wrong. He is even criticizing the left for giving these groups a different “status” than others.
He did that all the time! It was Obama’s reckless comments that led to Black Lives Matter, a terrorist group that thrived on woke ideology and identity politics. Yet Obama is saying this today because identity politics is no longer an asset for the left. It’s actually a detriment, as their focus is on smaller and smaller groups, at the expense of everyone else.
The irony (or humor) to this is that in no way will the left listen to Obama. They might even attack him for bringing this up. He had previously condemned safe spaces in colleges, and they did nothing about it.
I doubt they’ll reverse course over this.
