Some time has passed and it seems the media has moved on from the horrific derailment in East Palestine, OH. But the fact remains that many Americans still face the deadly aftermath of the wreck and the idiotic decision by government officials to burn off toxic chemicals. Many residents of the town have suffered respiratory issues, among other health problems, since the event.
But, it is possible Department of Transportation head Pete Buttigieg thinks he’s home clear. He has failed on numerous crises, but has yet to be fired by Joe Biden. That’s par for the course for this corrupt administration, which keeps its incompetent staff, no matter how badly they perform.
Buttigieg isn’t out of the woods, though. Because top Republican Sen. Ted Cruz just took him to the woodshed.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) used a congressional hearing on Wednesday to air criticisms of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg‘s response to the Norfolk Southern train derailment disaster in East Palestine, Ohio, early last month…
“It took Secretary Buttigieg 10 days to even acknowledge the derailment,” Cruz said. “After he was called out, he did a 180 and tried to sell a slew of big government regulatory proposals, desperate to disguise the failure of the administration to act sooner.” […]
“In an effort to further distract from his own failed response, Secretary Buttigieg has suggested that President Trump was responsible for the derailment in East Palestine,” the senator said.
“I know that’s a frequent playbook of this administration, blaming every problem on President Trump, but not even The Washington Post fact-checker who usually goes out of his way to back Democrat claims, bought this claim,” Cruz continued before citing a passage from the publication’s analysis. Ouch, that must have hurt. Sen. Cruz laid into Buttigieg, pointing out his failure to respond to the disaster–and his subsequent lies to cover his tracks. Cruz pointed out that Buttigieg failed to say anything about the wreck until 10 days after it happened. We can assume he hadn’t done anything behind the scenes until then.
Cruz pointed out the dishonest claims Buttigieg made, blaming changes to rules done during the Trump administration. But even one of Buttigieg’s own officials contradicted that claim, as did The Washington Post. Any rule changes made by Trump did not contribute to this crash, as the paper pointed out.
Buttigieg neglected to even go to East Palestine for weeks. He showed up only a day after Donald Trump, who provided water and supplies to the struggling community. But what did Buttigieg do? Nothing. His neglect encouraged FEMA–the agency created to help Americans during disasters–to deny relief aid to East Palestine. I guess they have illegal aliens to help instead.
It might seem pointless to you, for Cruz to say all this after the fact. But Buttigieg is a powerful government official appointed by the president. He is not elected to his post, yet he makes decisions that affect all of us. And this is just one of many times Buttigieg’s criminal neglect of his job has led to disaster.
When will he be held accountable for his incompetence? When will the administration fire this lazy, self-centered, arrogant loser?
