Joe Biden’s presidency has been met with harsh criticisms over the economy. Since Biden entered office, inflation has hurt millions of wage earners. Biden’s “green” energy policy has put further strain on the economy, driving up prices on most goods. People hit the hardest are blue-collar and working-class Americans, who have seen what amounts to a pay decrease.
One of the biggest unions in the country, the United Auto Workers, has gone on strike for the first time. Some have considered this a black eye for the Biden administration; Biden has long claimed to be a union ally. In a surprise move, Donald Trump announced he is supporting the strike and will make an appearance. Not to be outdone by a Republican, Biden is scrambling to make an appearance first.

Biden announced Sept. 22 that he would join the picket lines after the UAW expanded its strike to 38 additional plants spanning across the U.S. while negotiations continue to stall. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre touted the visit as “historic,” saying the president has always been “on the side of workers” getting their “fair share.” [Source: Daily Caller]

Critics point to Biden’s own economic policies as reason for the strike. Biden is blamed for rising inflation that has significantly impacted working Americans’ wages. On top of this, Biden has been urging car makers to transition to electric vehicles. EVs require fewer human workers, jeopardizing the jobs of many UAW members.
Trump announced he was skipping the second Republican primary debate to meet with striking auto workers. He would also be speaking during the event. Only after this did the White House announce Biden’s trip to Detroit.
It’s unclear what kind of reception Biden will receive from these workers. Biden has enjoyed support from most major labor unions. But under his leadership, wages have gone down. Trump, on the other hand, has been credited with bringing back work to Detroit while in office.
