If you are reading this, chances are you have no love for Utah Sen. Mitt Romney. The one-time presidential loser carpet-bagged his way into an open Senate seat. But he has hardly been a champion for Republican values during his time in the upper chamber.
The Republican-in-name-only voted against Trump in the left’s second bogus impeachment. He has repeatedly opposed the party’s agenda, siding with Democrats time and again. He is facing severe backlash among voters in Utah, so much so, that he’s not even bothering with trying to run for re-election.
And now, he is saying he will vote for a Democrat for president, over the GOP’s biggest name.
In an interview with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell, Romney said he would be “happy to support any one of the Republicans,” he stressed, “maybe not Vivek, but the others that are running would be acceptable to me.”
“I’d be happy to vote for a number of the Democrats too,” Romney added. “I mean, would be an upgrade from, in my opinion, from Donald Trump, and perhaps also from Joe Biden.” [Source: The Post Millennial]
Mitt’s statement should come as no surprise to most conservatives, many of whom have already called him a “secret Democrat.” Romney admitted he’d rather vote for a Democrat than Donald Trump or Vivek Ramaswamy.
Trump is far and away the leading GOP candidate for president. And recent polls indicate he is leading Joe Biden, especially in must-win battleground states. For Romney, a “Republican,” to say he would vote for a Democrat before he would vote for Trump, is a knife in the party’s back.
And Trump had something to say about it.
“Turns out he’s opposed to America-First itself, not just one man,” Ramaswamy said in a statement to Fox News. “Newsflash, Mitt: I didn’t vote for you either, and I still call on your niece Ronna [McDaniel] to resign.”
A spokesperson for the Trump campaign echoed those sentiments, saying, “Voters aren’t going to take advice from a loser and quitter like Mittens.” [Source: The Post Millennial]
A Trump spokesperson blasted Romney’s comments, saying voters aren’t going to take advice from a “loser and quitter” like Mitt. And they decided to throw in a new nickname for the RINO, “Mittens.”
Well, that’s a lot easier to say than “Mitt Romney.” And perhaps that name will stick around long enough to drive Romney out of the public eye for good.
