You are probably familiar with Democrats’ demand to increase the minimum wage. The national minimum wage is $7.50 an hour. But many states have higher minimum wages, while even fast food companies pay more on their own.
Democrats have long demanded a national minimum wage to be set at $15 an hour. While that sounds like a reasonable demand, forced minimum wage hikes end up hurting small businesses and lead to massive layoffs.
But one liberal candidate for Senate has gone way beyond $15 an hour. We’ve seen some ridiculous demands in our day, but this takes the cake!
Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) said during a debate this week for one of California’s U.S. Senate seats that it makes sense to raise the minimum wage to $50 an hour…
“In the Bay Area, I believe it was the United Way that came out with a report that very recently $127,000 for a family of four is just barely enough to get by,” Lee said. “Another survey very recently: $104,000. For a family of one, barely enough to get by low income because of the affordability crisis.”
“Just do the math! Just do the math!” she continued. [Source: Daily Wire]
Don’t you just love it when Democrats try to do basic math? Liberal Barbara Lee, candidate for U.S. Senate out of California, is demanding a $50 an hour minimum wage. She cited some questionable data that suggests a six-figure salary is “just barely enough” for a family of four.
But she seems to forget those numbers come from one group—and it’s based on the cost of living in the Bay Area. Nobody can afford to live in the Bay Area these days, thanks largely to extremely high taxes… from Democrat lawmakers.
I’d like to hear how Lee expects companies to pay such exorbitant salaries for hourly workers. Minimum wage is for entry-level workers. Nobody is supposed to live forever on that kind of salary.
If you intend to build a family of four, you better be working on getting a promotion. It is not a company’s responsibility to pay low-skilled workers six figures, because some out-of-touch Democrat thinks so.
Liberals make these wild claims to bamboozle voters. They know these demands will never happen. Congress will never pass a law creating a $ 50-an-hour minimum wage. She is just saying this to trick voters into backing her. Will Lee put forward a bill to make this possible?
Maybe. But she will in no way be able to get it passed.
