Jerry Seinfeld is one of the most successful, and beloved, entertainers. His work has been watched by numerous generations. He created the most popular sitcom of all time and continues to pack theaters for his stand-up shows.
But he has been looking at what’s been going on in the entertainment world lately and it seems he’s not happy.
The renowned comedian recently spoke about the state of America’s comedy and television. He claimed Americans need comedy to help relieve their stress. Yet it seems to be nowhere on TV. And this is why.
Jerry Seinfeld, one of the most successful comedians in history, lamented that the “extreme left” has ruined comedy…
“It used to be that you’d go home at the end of the day, most people would go, ‘Oh, Cheers is on. Oh, M.A.S.H. is on. Oh, Mary Tyler Moore is on, All in the Family is on.’ You just expected [there will] be some funny stuff we can watch on TV tonight,” he said.
“Well, guess what? Where is it? Where is it? This is the result of the extreme left and P.C. crap and people worrying so much about offending other people,” he added. [Source: Breitbart]
Seinfeld blasted progressivism for killing comedy. He claimed that the “extreme left” and “P.C. crap” has deprived audiences of quality comedy on TV. He said years ago, people would enjoy widely popular shows at the end of the day.
But today, there appears to be nothing. He believes TV networks and Hollywood are too cowardly to make comedy anymore because they are “worrying so much about offending” the woke crowd.
Meanwhile, Seinfeld and other comedians are enjoying huge success on the road, because they are not being “policed by anyone.” Many comedians are turning on the woke climate in the entertainment industry. Despite threats of being “canceled” they have found eager audiences on the stand-up stage.
Seinfeld explained that writers for TV watch their jokes get passed around to “four or five different” committees, which proceed to kill the comedy.
For an iconic star like Seinfeld to be commenting on this problem, it’s safe to say it has become systemic. Seinfeld is a liberal who is unlikely to go out of his way to criticize the left. But when even he is blasting “P.C. crap,” the industry is surely dying.
