Gov. Gavin Newsom of California has become a bigger and bigger supporter of President Biden. Over the last few years, some have speculated that he’d jump into the Democratic primaries. Instead, he has backed Joe Biden and refused any speculation over his future political plans.
But last week’s presidential debate has panicked many Democrats. Some are looking for Biden to be replaced before November.
The party’s bench is not deep. There are precious few names that could take over their ticket—with the hopes they can defeat a juggernaut like Trump. Newsom has refused to entertain the idea of kicking old Joe to the curb. But his recent announcement has raised eyebrows. And now, people are wondering.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom is headed to New Hampshire to headline a Democrat campaign event just days after the Biden-Trump presidential debate, fueling more speculation that he may be preparing to step in if Biden backs out of the 2024 race.
The July 8 event, called the “Blue Summer Campaign Kick-Off,” is being spearheaded by the New Hampshire House and Senate Democrats…

New Hampshire is a key swing state in this election. But, instead of sending Joe Biden or Kamala Harris, Democrats are sending a governor from the other side of the country. Gavin Newsom will be stumping for the Biden-Harris ticket in the Granite State. He will attend a July 8th kickoff event, then campaign up and down the state.
He will try to energize the Democrat voter base and help state and local candidates. This has sparked speculation because this is something a top Democrat candidate should be doing. Newsom is campaigning for Biden; why isn’t Biden doing this himself?
Some are wondering if this is setting the stage for a Newsom takeover. Biden’s cognitive decline will turn away millions of voters; some think Newsom might be able to save the party.
Chances are, Newsom is campaigning in place of Biden, because Joe can’t do it himself. Biden has appeared weak, confused, and incoherent at recent campaign events. It is unlikely he’d be able to survive the grueling campaign trail. So, Newsom is stepping in for him.
Newsom probably won’t take over the Biden ticket; but his appearance in New Hampshire is almost the campaign admitting Biden can’t do his own job.
