In a shocking display of divisiveness, some progressive Democrats are aligning themselves with groups that harbor deep-seated hatred towards the United States and Israel. We’ve seen, across many cities and college campuses, people who spread hatred for America and its close ally in the Middle East.
But this hostility has gone all the way to D.C. Some Democrat members of Congress, who have long histories of anti-Israel bias, have spoken out in support of Gaza. This includes some progressive “squad” members as well as leading Democrat figures like Nancy Pelosi.
These Democrats appear to be fearing backlash from left-wing voters. But some of them seem to truly hate Israel. This unsettling trend was recently highlighted by the actions of Representative Rashida Tlaib during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress. Rep. Tlaib, a native Palestinian, has been accused of supporting groups connected to Hamas. And while the leader of Israel was speaking, she tried to turn the attention to herself. It didn’t work out as well as she hoped.

During Netanyahu’s address, Tlaib held up a sign accusing the Israeli leader of being a “war criminal.” This act wasn’t just a protest; it was a clear alignment with extremist views that reject the legitimacy of Israel and its right to defend itself. Such actions from a sitting member of Congress are not only disrespectful, but also dangerous, as they embolden those who wish harm upon our closest ally in the Middle East.
Critics were quick to condemn Tlaib’s actions, with many labeling them as a disgrace. Her blatant display of hostility towards Israel, a nation that shares democratic values with the United States, underscores the progressive wing’s intentions. It seems they are more aligned with anti-American and anti-Israel sentiments than with promoting peace and cooperation.
This isn’t the first time Tlaib and other progressives have shown sympathy for groups hostile to American and Israeli interests. From endorsing the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to economically isolate Israel, to their consistent criticism of U.S. foreign policy, these actions signify a broader ideological shift.
By siding with these groups, progressives are not only undermining the efforts to maintain strong U.S.-Israel relations but are also legitimizing those who advocate for the destruction of Israel and oppose American values. This alignment poses a significant threat to our national security and diplomatic relationships.
Commentators were quick to criticize Tlaib’s move. Some called her a “disgrace.” Others mocked her hypocrisy. Still, other users pointed out that she just provided the Internet with a perfect template for meme-making. Some users turned the phrase back on Tlaib, accusing her of being the true “war criminal.”
While Tlaib is taking her lumps for siding with anti-Israel extremism, she is not alone. Democrats might start moving farther left as we approach the election. It’s clear that Kamala Harris is trying to win over antisemitic voters. She refused to attend Netanyahu’s address. And she has been trying to win back young voters who turned on Joe Biden. Harris is setting a very dangerous pattern for the party, which might totally abandoned Israel in a pathetic attempt to curry anti-Israel activists’ support.
