So, Joe Biden steps down, and suddenly Kamala Harris is the nominee—just like that, without even letting liberal voters weigh in. Naturally, people are scratching their heads over how this all went down. Sure, she’s the VP, so maybe she was next in line. But let’s be real—has she done anything as VP, or even as senator, that screams “presidential material”?
Voters might want to take a long, hard look at Kamala. Does she have what it takes to lead the country? And what was Biden thinking when he picked her in the first place, given her rather unimpressive track record? A recent poll even asked voters what they thought of Kamala’s stint as VP. And guess what? Some floated a title the Democrats have been desperately trying to bury.
Controversy over so-called DEI (“diversity, equity and inclusion”) policies has intruded on this year’s presidential campaign, with some critics accusing Vice President Kamala Harris of being a “DEI hire.”
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 41% of Likely U.S. Voters believe it’s fair to call Harris a “DEI hire,” while 45% don’t think it’s a fair accusation and 15% are not sure.” [Source: Rasmussen Reports]
According to Rasmussen, 41% of likely voters think it’s fair to label Kamala Harris as a “DEI hire.” For those not in the know, DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion—a set of policies aimed at promoting those values in various sectors. So why all the fuss?
Critics argue that this label reduces Harris’s accomplishments to her race and gender, suggesting she was chosen to tick off some diversity boxes rather than for her qualifications. And with 41% of voters agreeing with this label, it’s not just a fringe idea—it’s got some traction.
But it doesn’t stop with Harris. The poll also delved into the broader and equally heated topic of DEI policies. Here’s where things get spicy. About 27% of voters believe that criticizing DEI policies is inherently racist. On the flip side, nearly half—49%—disagree, saying that DEI criticism isn’t racist at all. The remaining 24% are on the fence, maybe wisely avoiding this potential landmine.
Liberals can’t chalk this up to ignorance, though. It turns out the more familiar you are with DEI, the less likely you are to see its criticism as racist. Among those “very familiar” with DEI, a solid 59% think it’s totally fine to critique without being slapped with the “racist” label. So, knowledge is power—and maybe a little bit of common sense too.
The Democrats are trying to sidestep this messy issue, but it’s hard to ignore. Biden picked Harris because she’s a woman of color, not necessarily because she’s qualified for the VP spot. That’s the textbook definition of a DEI hire—prioritizing race or gender over qualifications. Don’t believe it? Just look at how the media talks about Kamala. They’re more interested in her being the first woman of color president than in whether she’d actually be a good president.
