The Democratic Party is in disarray. With Kamala Harris’s recent defeat by Donald Trump, liberals are scrambling to pin the blame somewhere, anywhere. And, in true political fashion, fingers are pointing every which way.
The latest theory? Some Democratic insiders are now claiming that Harris’s loss could have been avoided had President Joe Biden stayed in the race. A few months back, these same voices were loudest in demanding Biden step aside, arguing he wasn’t up for the challenge. Now, they’re saying he was their only shot at beating Trump.
And as the blame game heats up, one surprising name is being tossed into the mix: George Clooney. Yes, Hollywood’s own George Clooney, who had initially joined the chorus of voices calling for Biden to drop out.
Clooney’s op-ed last spring called for “new leadership,” a move that pressured Biden to step aside and, ultimately, cleared the way for Kamala to take the reins. But Clooney has a response for the backlash—he won’t be anyone’s scapegoat.
George Clooney is being blamed by some for Vice President Kamala Harris losing to Donald Trump, after the Hollywood star, 63, predicted the people would stop Trump from becoming the next president…

As the dust settles, Clooney isn’t taking the criticism lying down. According to sources close to the actor, Clooney feels it’s unfair to blame him for Harris’s defeat. Clooney had only wanted Democrats to rethink their strategy, offering what he thought was a voice of reason as the 2024 race heated up.
“When he wrote his op-ed, George did not say, ‘Biden is not fit to be president, choose Kamala,’” one source told the Daily Mail. Clooney wanted the party to consider all options, not to throw their weight behind one specific candidate without due diligence.
Clooney, who has long been a high-profile Democratic supporter, has reportedly invested plenty of time, energy, and money into the party’s causes. Just last year, he helped raise a staggering $30 million for Biden’s re-election efforts at a glitzy Hollywood fundraiser.
But now, after seeing his role questioned and his motives challenged, Clooney is taking a step back from Democratic politics. For Clooney, it’s a frustrating turn of events. As one insider said, he’s “very disheartened” by the way the narrative has shifted.
The New York Times piece Clooney penned argued for fresh energy and a competitive edge in the Democratic ticket, a position some strategists saw as sensible at the time. But as Kamala Harris’s campaign struggled to gain momentum and then ultimately faltered against Trump, Clooney’s words were recast as part of the problem rather than a potential solution.
It’s an open question whether Biden’s presence could have turned the tide for Democrats. With Trump securing another term, liberals are left wondering if the party’s insistence on “new blood” ultimately cost them the election.
As for Clooney, he stands by his call for Democrats to evaluate their options. After all, his intent wasn’t to endorse any one candidate, but rather to spark a conversation about the future.
