In a bold move, House Speaker Mike Johnson has taken action to ensure that nothing gets swept under the rug during this transition. Johnson has sent a letter to all 18 federal departments, ordering them to preserve every record, email, and document from the Biden administration.
This, Johnson says, is about ensuring transparency and accountability. And he’s not taking any chances—any attempt by Biden officials to delete or destroy records could bring some hefty federal criminal penalties.
In his letters, Johnson highlighted some of the major areas of focus: the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal, censorship and collusion with social media giants, open-border policies, and even the rise of antisemitism on college campuses under Democrat-led policies.
Johnson isn’t just writing letters; he’s laying down the law. His message to Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su—and every other Biden official—is clear: Congress expects full cooperation.
That means retaining every record, every email, and every internal document in compliance with the Federal Records Act. And if Biden’s team doesn’t comply? They’ll have Congress, and soon, Trump’s administration, to answer to.
The 118th Congress, under Johnson’s leadership, has already been investigating key areas they believe were mishandled by the Biden administration. Johnson cited Biden’s border policies, the Afghanistan withdrawal disaster, social media censorship, and the alleged weaponization of federal agencies against conservatives as the main issues under scrutiny.
Johnson isn’t stopping there. He also reminded Biden’s administration of the subpoenas that have been ignored for months. In his letter, Johnson didn’t mince words: if Biden’s team continues to dodge subpoenas, they can expect to see them reissued by the next Congress.
