WH Press Secretary Jen Psaki half-heartedly took back a previous comment about the U.S. Space Force, but did not provide a complete apology.
“They certainly have the total support of President Biden and we are not altering the choice to establish a Space Force,” she previously said.
Psaki was criticized earlier this week after she made a bizarre joke at the expensive of the Space Force. After receiving a social media backlash, she suddenly switched to being serious.
“Thousands of people proudly serve in the U.S. Space Force,” Psaki later said. “As we know, the force was created by Congress and any followup steps would have to be taken by Congress as well, not by the President.”
Commentators said her switch shows the limits of Democratic attacks against one of President Donald Trump’s top achievements.
