Cuomo Gets Dethroned After Mountain Of Scandals

For weeks, a Pandora’s Box of controversy and scandal has been opened up on Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The New York governor’s problems started when a top aide revealed they covered up the number of nursing home deaths due to COVID. That has since spiraled into a non-stop flood of attacks and accusations.

The nursing home scandal, which triggered an FBI probe, sparked reports that Cuomo had intimidated a lawmaker. But even that shocking report was overshadowed by a line of women accusing the governor of sexual harassment. The latest one to come out (sixth, if you’re keeping count) appeared to be the most egregious: the report claims Cuomo groped a woman at the governor’s mansion.

The story has even been sent along to the local police for investigation.

As things got worse and worse for Cuomo, local Democrats quickly started to turn on him. Many called for his resignation, but the stubborn governor refused. Now, the state assembly speaker is finally doing what many have been demanding.

New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie issued a statement on Thursday saying that he is authorizing the initiation of an impeachment investigation into Gov. Andrew Cuomo…

“The reports of accusations concerning the governor are serious. The committee will have the authority to interview witnesses, subpoena documents and evaluate evidence, as is allowed by the New York State Constitution. I have the utmost faith that Assembly member Lavine and the members of the committee will conduct an expeditious, full and thorough investigation,” Heastie said. [Source: Just the News]

Wow. Democrats can get impeached over the wrongs they do? And here I thought impeachment was just used by Congress to harass a president they don’t like!

New York’s lawmakers will be opening up an investigation to explore the many accusations thrown at Cuomo. While it appears that the focus of the investigation will be on the sexual harassment allegations, it would be unlikely that they’d ignore the other brewing scandals.

The committee will be obligated to interview Cuomo’s staff on how they handled the nursing home scandal. Way back in March and April of 2020, the governor issued orders forcing COVID patients into nursing homes and homes for the disabled. Cases exploded and thousands of elderly people died. That should be top on the list of this impeachment probe.

Then there appears to be a smattering of accounts where the governor intimidated lawmakers and staff. One politician claims Cuomo called him up at home and threatened to destroy his career. Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York had said this was a common thing for Cuomo to do. I’d imagine that will come up in this investigation.

But what this committee will most likely focus on are the many (and growing) allegations of sexual harassment from former staff members and New York State officials. The Democrats will look over a multitude of sins committed by their own. But if you sexually harass a woman—they will be forced to take you down.

Will this probe lead to an actual impeachment? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
