According to a new poll, former President Donald Trump would beat Vice President Kamala Harris by double digits in a potential 2024 race.
According to a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey released to The Hill this week, Trump is prepared to get political vengeance on President Joe Biden if the election were held today, but his level of support is lower than a presidential match up against Harris.
If Harris were to be the Democratic nominee, 49% of respondents said they would vote for Trump while 38% said they would pick her. In a 2020 rematch, Trump wins with 47 percent to Biden’s 41%. Twelve percent of those polled were undecided. Biden’s job approval rating was 39 percent in the poll.
If Kamala Harris were to run for the Democratic presidential nomination against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, she would have a better chance of winning. Harris received 40% support, slightly ahead of DeSantis’s 38%.
Should Trump decide to run, he is in a good position to secure the GOP nomination. According on the poll, 59 percent of Republican voters selected Trump. 11% for former Vice President Mike Pence and 10% for DeSantis are statistically tied in second place. If Trump does not run, DeSantis beats Pence 28% to 24%.
“I wouldn’t pay too much attention to trial heats right now, other than they show Biden’s and the administration’s current shortcomings,” said Mark Penn, the survey’s co-director. “Most Republican candidates who were once well-known by the public would defeat them, unless they can pivot out of their current numbers nadir.”
The poll, conducted by the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University, was completed from March 23 to 24 among 1,990 registered voters. “The Harris Panel is an online sample drawn from the Harris Panel and weighted to reflect known demographics. It does not provide a probability confidence interval as a representative online sample,” according to The Hill.
It is safe to say that Americans are anticipated a return of Donald Trump and the MAGA team. And Democrats should fear both 2022 and 2024 with every fiber of their being.
