Catastrophic food and fertilizer shortages resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine provide a tremendous opportunity to advance leftist ideals under Joe Biden, according to one Biden administration source.
During an interview with “This Week” on Sunday, Samantha Power, the head of the United States Agency for International Development, made this claim.
“We’ve seen worldwide food shortages all over the world,” said show host George Stephanopoulos, “as the administrator of the United States Agency for Intl. Development, can anything else be done to address them?”
“Thank you for asking that, it’s just another example of Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine adding to the devastation, as if the problems in Ukraine weren’t enough, countries like subsaharan Africa and the Middle East get maybe around eighty, ninety percent of their wheat or grain from Ukraine and Russia, and food costs go up dramatically,” said Power.
“George, food costs right now are up 34 percent from where they were a year ago, thanks to this invasion,” she continued.
Power said they were working on increasing food production from farmers while also using the opportunity to persuade farmers to use green energy rather than chemical fertilizer.
“Because Russia is such a significant fertilizer exporter, fertilizer shortages are now scarce. Even though fertilizer isn’t sanctioned, the amount coming out of Russia has decreased. As a result, we’re working with nations to consider natural alternatives like manure and compost to help farmers speed transitions that would have been helpful eventually anyway,” Power said.
“So never allow a crisis to go to waste,” she added.
She also responded to criticism that the Biden administration’s policies caused food prices to rise.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been underway for ten weeks, with civilian deaths believed to be as high as 2,685 by some sources, according to the US State Department.
This goes to show that Democrats do not care about Americans. They only care about expanding their power and controlling the lives of Americans. And using a possible famine to achieve political ends is on par with something you would see in the Soviet Union or communist China, not something that should ever happen in America.
