When former Congressman Will Hurd departed Congress in 2021, the voters of Texas’ 23rd congressional district got a major break.
Now, he’s providing Texans in Texas’ 23rd a stronger incentive to be glad that he’s no longer in office after submitting a piece calling for civilian disarmament on June 6 at The NY Times.
Hurd called for red flag gun seizure orders, universal background checks, and a minimum age of 21 to purchase most guns.
Hurd called for red flag gun seizure orders, universal background checks, and a minimum age of 21 to purchase most guns.
He added:
“The age to buy a high-caliber semiautomatic weapon with a large capacity magazine should be the same as it is for purchasing a handgun.”
Hurd suggested that the federal government should follow Florida’s current red flag legislation:
“At the state level, we must also build on successes such as Florida’s ‘Red Flag’ law, which allows cops and family members to ask a court to temporarily seize guns from people who may pose a threat. “
Hurd is a Swamp creature at his core. He worked for the Central Intelligence Agency from 2000 to 2009, initially as a spy and then as an officer in the espionage department. Elected officials with his background are rarely trusted to safeguard our freedoms.
We may now sleep well knowing that Hurd is no longer in office. There are, however, a plethora of slimy Republicans still out here who would sell out grassroots conservatives if the opportunity arises.
At this junction, the grassroots approach reemerges to remind them that there’s a steep price to pay for betraying their constituents. We can’t allow misguided Republicans to derail the right-wing populist movement needed to totally confront the managerial Left now, at this critical point in our history.
