Plenty of people are dissecting the results of November’s midterm elections. The left is trying to spin them as best they can. But the fact they cannot ignore is the massive success of Florida’s Ron DeSantis. Thanks to his tireless, conservative leadership, Republicans decimated Democrats in state elections.
DeSantis’ success was so huge, he is now the frontrunner for the 2024 Presidential Elections. Many pundits think he is the future of the Republican Party. So, liberals in the media are trying to come up with new attacks to undermine him. But an unlikely person has emerged to defend DeSantis. Nobody was expecting this.
Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” defended Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) against attacks he has faced from media and a Democrat politician who criticized DeSantis on the show’s most recent broadcast…
“In other words, after the storm, he can stand with President Biden like a normal governor does and work with them and then send some migrants to Martha’s Vineyard. You know, and that’s a very powerful thing to have both those elements.” […]
Later in the show, Maher said that Biden would beat Trump in a rematch in 2024, but he wasn’t sure that Biden could beat DeSantis.
“Would he beat DeSantis?” Maher said. “That I don’t know. And It’s gonna look weird, because he will be like literally twice as old as him, no really, and DeSantis has like three little kids. You know, that always plays well in America. America likes new.” [Source: Daily Wire]
Maher, the outspoken liberal host and critic of Republicans, defended Ron DeSantis against leftist critics. The host praised DeSantis’ ability to both play politics and also do the things that “normal” governors do–like stand beside Biden after Hurricane Ian.
It seems Maher doesn’t think Trump can beat Biden in a 2024 rematch. But DeSantis? Maher believes the much younger man can easily destroy Biden, who will be so old he might not be able to stand up straight.
This is not to say that Maher is suddenly a Republican cheerleader. But, unlike many liberals (and conservatives) he is often honest in his assessment of politicians. Despite his cynicism towards traditional conservatives, Maher can see the rising momentum of DeSantis. He has a clear shot for 2024 if he can capitalize on everything that’s happening.
But will DeSantis run? Will he spend a large part of his second term as governor for a shot at the White House?
We might find out soon enough.
