The Mayor of Dallas, Eric Johnson, stunned the nation when he recently announced he was becoming a Republican. The man had been a lifelong Democrat. But he left the party, largely thanks to its refusal to uphold law and order in countless cities.
It is no secret that progressive Democrats are deliberately pushing policies that defund police departments, put criminals back on the streets, and ignore numerous crimes.
Mayor Johnson was fed up with this level of hypocrisy. As he neared the end of his term, eying perhaps future Texas seats, he jumped ship to become a Republican. He recently spoke about what happened next. And it seems, that the moment he left the Democrats, all hell broke loose.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson gave new details during an interview this week about his decision to switch from the Democrat Party to the Republican Party…
“And so, I think I was always politically in a weird posture with the Democratic Party… you sort of inherit the Democratic Party as a cultural heirloom, when you’re African American in this country, it sort of gets handed to you, as part of who you are,” he said. “I had more phone calls with people distraught about this party switch than I ever would have gotten if I had told people that I was actually leaving the church. There’s no question about it. There’s no doubt about it. I will say that loudly and on the record. I had more panicked phone calls from people genuinely concerned about what I was doing and how I could do this than I would have gotten if I’d said I just don’t think I’m into this Jesus thing anymore.” [Source: Daily Wire]
Mayor Johnson left the Democratic Party because of its neglect of law and order. But the moment he did so, he received frantic calls from people. He said people were more distraught about this political move than if he left the church.
This is because, according to Johnson, black Americans “inherit” the Democratic Party. They are expected to be Democrats in America, whether they want to be or not. He said that Democrats claim a person’s fate is “largely determined” by their race, their neighborhood, and other factors “outside your control.”
He blasted this claim by liberals saying it “excuses away your failures.” It seems most black Americans are simply told they need to be Democrats. When one black person decides to leave and—to the horror of liberals—actually joins the GOP, it is like they are turning on their own community.
Johnson isn’t the first black American to experience this. Nearly every black person who leaves the Democratic Party is treated like a traitor. Never mind the fact that Democrats haven’t done a thing for black people in decades. And communities with large black populations—who exclusively vote for Democrats—are some of the worst in the country, escapes their notice.
But the more people like Johnson expose the party’s hypocrisy, perhaps more black people will stop supporting it.
